How Do We Preserve Hippocratic Medicine? – Dr. Alana Cormier

While many of us trained in a medical culture that embraced Hippocratic Medicine, we are experiencing a culture shift that rejects or distorts some of its foundational tenets. If Hippocratic Medicine was a patient who walked into your office today, how would you diagnose them? In this workshop, we will explore the patient’s history, discuss objective findings, make a differential diagnosis, and identify potential treatment options to help Hippocratic Medicine be preserved and thrive.
Dr. Alana Cormier is a family physician who obtained her medical degree at Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS and completed a residency in Family Medicine in Chilliwack, BC. Following residency, she locumed for several years in BC, NS, and briefly in Nunavut. She now works in Musquodoboit Harbour where her practice includes emergency, inpatient, and office-based medicine.
Dr. Cormier serves on the national board of the CMDA Canada, the council of the Canadian Federation of Catholic Physicians and Societies, and the board of the Nova Scotia Hospice and Palliative Care Association. She recently completed a diploma in Healthcare Ethics through the National Catholic Bioethics Centre in the United States. She feels particularly called to support and accompany clergy, those in ministry, patients, and their families live out our Christian faith while navigating through challenging medical situations and decisions and praises God if she can be of help.
