Please mark your calendar for Friday, September 13th and join us for our traditional Annual CMDA Fall Dinner. This year we will gather in the Maple Leaf Room at Lister Centre on the campus of the University of Alberta.  As usual, we will meet at 6:30 pm, however, please come early (the greeting table is open at 6:00 pm) and socialize with our Chapter members along with the students/residents.  The Maple Leaf Room room is located on the 2ndLevel of Lister Centre (Please see the attached Lister-Directory Map at the beginning of this email).  Lister Centre is located at 11613 – 87 Avenue, Edmonton NW on the University of Alberta campus, just East of the Jubilee Auditorium.  Please see the attached map link for directions to The Lister Centre.

Since this is the first of several events that are planned for the year, we would like to focus on 3rd World Electives; the Executive Members of our CMDA – Edmonton Chapter would like to encourage our medical and dental students, as well as other health-profession students, to be involved in these endeavors while in training, and even after their studies have been completed.  We have organized two speakers to present this year, both of whom are practitioners that have participated in several mission trips to various parts of the world.

One of our guest speakers is Dr. Dave Milner DDS, and he graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Alberta in 1987.  He established his private general dental office here in Edmonton, and has been in practice for 37 years.  He has engaged in numerous short term mission trips (lasting anywhere from 1 week to 3 months) in Ecuador, Honduras (5 times), Philippines, Guatemala, Mexico, and in Costa Rica.  Dave has entitled his talk DENTAL MISSIONS in RURAL HONDURAS…WHERE THERE’S NEVER BEEN a DENTIST”.

Another guest speaker this evening is  Dr. Anna Voeuk MD, MPH, CCFP(PC), FCFP, DTM & H and she received her medical degree from the University of Calgary.  She completed residency training in Rural Family Medicine through the University of Alberta and practiced full scope family medicine before doing another year of residency in Palliative Care.  She also has a Master of Public Health with a specialization in Global Health, and has participated in humanitarian responses to natural disasters, conflict, forced displacement, and disease outbreaks.  Currently, she works as a Palliative Care consultant in Edmonton.  Anna’s talk is entitled “PALLIATIVE CARE in HUMANITARIAN CRISIS:  THEN and THERE, HERE and NOW”.

Please join us for an evening of informative talks, and socializing with fellow students and practitioners alike.

The costs of catering, and the room rentals for our events, have increased substantially over the last several years.  However, we have managed to keep the same fees as those charged since our last Fall gathering.  The fees for this year’s Fall CMDA Dinner are as follows:

Graduates, Spouses:  $50.00 per person

Residents, Retired Physicians/Dentists, Spouses:  $30.00 per person

Medical/Dental Students, Spouses and Other Health-Profession Students:  $10.00 person

1st Year Medical/Dental Students:  FREE

We’d like to have folks interested in attending our event to register online beforehand using the form below and permit the collection of fees prior to arriving (as we’ve had several requests from members to pursue this approach).

Please register by filling in the fields of the registration form.  One can make payment online, or alternatively, one can still make a cash/cheque payment at the door of the event. Once the fields of the registration form are filled, you’ll be directed to a page that will obtain your credit card information (it takes a few seconds to reach the payment page, so be patient).   Following the payment, you’ll receive an email/text confirming your registration/payment. This registration procedure allows us to better prepare for the catering requirements at each of our CMDA events.

Alternatively, if you wish to register with me in the traditional fashion, feel free to respond to me at my email address: edmonton@cmdacanada.org.  You’re welcome, then, to submit your fees at the registration table which will be present at the Maple Leaf Room entrance.

(PLEASE NOTE:  If you wish to register your attendance with me directly, you are not required to register via this online version; however, you’re welcome to do so if you wish to make this your payment method.)

We encourage you to try this new means of replying to our CMDA-Edmonton invitations.  Know that you can always contact me via email, or by phone, should you have any questions about our event, registration, etc.

Parking at Lister Centre is available at the surface parking lots M and R adjacent to the Centre. In addition, one can park on the surface at the Jubilee Auditorium, or within the Parkade located at the Jubilee Auditorium.  Evening parking at lots M and R are $5.50, while evening parking at the Jubilee Auditorium ranges from $6.00 (surface) to $6.50 (parkade).  Should you require additional information, it can be obtained via this link:  https://www.ualberta.ca/parking-services/visitor-and-event-parking/rates.html.

We hope to see a large response to this all-inclusive invitation from those in practice, in residency and from students.
